The cabinet of Assam has approved water supply projects for Karimganj and Hailakandi towns in the state. The scope of work for Hailakandi includes the construction of a 12.66 mld water treatment plant (WTP), for which raw water will be drawn from the the Katakhal river with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) automation to provide 135 litres per capita per day (lpcd) of water to a population of 60,425 by 2055 at an estimated cost of Rs 727.4 million. Further, the scope of work for Karimganj includes the construction of a 16 mld WTP, for which raw water will be drawn from the the Longai river with SCADA automation, district metered areas concept and advanced water loss reduction strategies. The project aims to provide 135 lpcd of water to a population of 101,430 by 2055 at an estimated cost of Rs 811.8 million.
