The Assam government has inaugurated a piped natural gas (PNG) project in Guwahati. In the first phase, the project has connected around 101 households in the Geetanagar area. Additionally, Barak Valley’s first compressed natural gas station has been inaugurated and the foundation stone laid for PNG supply works in Hajo, Sualkuchi, Rangia and Baihata Chariali. Purba Bharati Gas Private Limited, a joint venture (JV) between Assam Gas Company Limited, Oil India Limited (OIL) and GAIL Gas Limited, is planning to develop a city gas distribution network across the Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Cachar, Hailakandi and Shreebhumi districts of Assam. The project entails an investment of about Rs 26.16 billion, with work likely to be completed in the Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts by September 2028.
