The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology signed an agreement with NTF Energy Solutions Private Limited for the commercialisation of the indigenous Type IV composite CNG cylinders. It would see the setting up of a manufacturing facility for the lightweight cylinders with the deployment of technologies including filament winding, blow moulding and high-pressure testing. They are likely to be used in the transportation and other clean-energy segments. In comparison to steel cylinders, the Type IV composite cylinders are lighter and reduce weight by up to 75 per cent. The facility is expected to utilise locally sourced raw materials and build a domestic supply chain for the cylinders.
