Centre authorised 735 drinking water schemes under JJM

The centre has authorised 735 drinking water schemes worth Rs 18.82 billion under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for providing tap water connections in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. The sanctioned schemes will cover a population of 3.9 million in 1,262 villages of 33 districts. As of November 12, 2021, 3.4 million (12.9 per cent) of rural households out of 26.4 million are receiving tap water supply in their homes. The state intends to connect 7.8 million homes to tap water by 2021-22. Uttar Pradesh has already received a grant-in-aid of Rs 24 billion from the Jal Shakti ministry for fiscal year 2021-22. The national JJM has advised the state to take the required steps to deliver tap water to 7.8 million rural households in Uttar Pradesh this year in order to speed up implementation.
